FUNCTIONAL FITNESS

A better functioning body can help you rediscover the joy of movement, improve overall well being, and feel empowered at ANY age. I offer functional strength coaching both in-person and virtually to support the needs of my clients.

Who I Work With

  • Peri & Menopausal women

Hormonal changes in mid-life women’s bodies coincide with the loss of bone density (osteoporosis) and muscle mass (sarcopenia), leading to challenges down the road in everyday living. The best way to counteract these losses, and prevent many challenges of aging, is to build strong bones and muscles through a program of lifting progressively heavier weights. Working with me as your trainer will help take the guesswork out of exercise programming, provide guidance and accountability, and set you on a track to be strong for life!

  • people with parkinsons disease (pd)

If you are living with a PD diagnosis you may have heard the phrase “Exercise is Medicine.” For everyone, including folks with PD, this is certainly the case! intense exercise has been shown to slow or in some individuals even regress symptoms of PD. Exercise of some form is indicated by many neurologists and PD care providers. I have been working with people with PD since April 2023 as a Rock Steady Boxing coach, and providing in-home 1:1 sessions focused on improving movement, balance, coordination, and strength. I love introducing folks to boxing principles and exploring how they can help with symptoms of PD.

  • active older adults

It is never too late to start a strength exercise program! In fact, older adults who start regular exercise programs for balance, coordination, strength, or endurance often experience a boost in quality of life within the first few weeks of exercising. Working with a trainer can make activities like going from sitting to standing, walking up a few stairs, or reaching for items on a shelf much easier. Feel more secure in your daily living by starting an exercise program with a trainer you can trust! I love working with older clients and am familiar with how to adjust programming for any possible medical conditions.

If you have pd, come box with me!

I have been punching and kicking bags (and sometimes people) for about 20 years. I know the power and confidence that comes from hitting focus mitts with a partner, and I love to share that with my clients! Non-contact boxing can be a fun and therapeutic form of exercise for anyone, but especially if you are living with PD. In my coaching experience, I’ve seen boxers with PD improve their coordination, stamina, strength, and balance through consistent exercise that include boxing skills.

Combining boxing with strength training can be a critical combo, and lead to a better quality of life for people living with PD. Many folks I’ve worked with say that never ever thought they would put on boxing gloves – and now they won’t take them off! Reach out today to see if boxing is a fit for you.

 FAQs

  • No. But I can refer you to folks who I know and trust for nutrition coaching or macros planning.

  • Many gyms have their own training staff and do not allow outside trainers to work on their premises. Please inquire with your gym about their policy and procedures.

  • Send me an email! I’d love to know a bit more about your building’s gym and what equipment is there.

  • You sure can! I am happy to adapt exercises for seated positions, and use a combination of seated and standing exercises to help your strength and balance.

  • If you’ve ever watched a boxing match or seen a Rocky movie, you know that boxers have to react to an opponent, coordinate movement of arms and legs, and maintain their balance and posture. Developing the physical elements and strength of a boxer aligns with addressing many symptoms of PD - loss of balance, stuttering gait, static arms, etc. Plus, the intense exercise that comes with a boxing workout has been indicated to slow the progression of PD for many people.
